Non-Fiction Resources

Non-fiction resources are chosen to support the curriculum.

Library Resources
  • The Non-fiction collection has all items interfiled with Reference, videos, DVDs, magazines, books and CD ROMs housed according to Dewey Decimal number.
  • Location in the Search Catalogue is JTC/South Metro TAFE. Resources at the Tindale campus state that they are John Tonkin College - Tindale.

Fiction Resources

Fiction resources are chosen to support the interest and age of our patrons.

  • The Fiction collection consists of books, videos, DVDs, CDs are arranged in alphabetical order by authors and cover a wide range of themes and genres.
  • Picture books and Graphic Novels are shelved separately.
  • DVDs are housed in locked cases that need to be unlocked to access the disk/s.
  • Spine labels will have a call number (F and 3 letters of either Author's surname or title).
  • Patrons are encouraged to suggest and recommend titles for purchase.

  • eBooks are now available to JTC students to loan for up to 4 weeks. Visit our ePlatform to see what titles are available.


ClickView

ClickView resources are chosen and taped to support the curriculum.

  • ClickView collection is accessible from JTC student and staff networks and has over 3,000 titles
  • Patrons can watch ClickView programs via ClickView Home after they download a free Microsoft program called 'silverlight'
  • Staff may develop composite programs and have own videos, power point presentations and widgets added to the Department listings
  • Patrons may copy small snippets and embed these into powerpoint presentations, blogs, wikis or web pages
  • JTC students can now watch ClickView programs at home via ClickView Online


Newspapers and Magazines

Newspapers and Magazines (Journals) are chosen to support both the curriculum and patron interests.

  • Newspapers - The West Australian and Mandurah papers are displayed on the newspaper stand near the Fiction area.
  • Periodicals (Journals/Magazines) - current issues are displayed on the periodical stands and cannot be borrowed. Back copies of journals are shelved in green boxes adjacent to new magazines, in the fiction area or on the non-fiction shelves in Dewey Decimal order in boxes organized by date (year/month/week)
